About
ZILART is a new museum of contemporary art in Moscow. Its building is a copper-clad cube with carefully balanced proportions, measuring 60 × 60 meters at its base and rising 36 meters high.
The museum’s collection brings together Russian avant-garde, unofficial Soviet art, international contemporary art, traditional African art, and photography.
The identity is rooted in the idea of collecting as a creative act: selecting, juxtaposing, and establishing connections. This concept took shape in a flexible system of graphic modules inspired by archival tags and systems of classification, bringing diverse content together into a cohesive whole.
The museum’s visual voice is a custom typeface, ZILART, defined by asymmetric proportions and an expressive rhythm. Designed with the museum’s architectural scale in mind, it works across Cyrillic and Latin scripts, from the logo to typography on copper and concrete surfaces, posters, and digital screens.
The identity becomes part of the museum’s architecture through large-scale typography, gallery numbers conceived as sculptural objects, wayfinding, entrance design, and digital displays. Mint and deep green create a counterpoint to the warm copper facade, while graphite and natural tones complement the building’s materiality.
For the museum shop, Collection, we developed a range of publications and objects, including collaborations with contemporary artists.
